Handover of items

On 30th June 2026, Kitgum District successfully conducted the handover of a consignment of agricultural items under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP). The exercise targeted farmers who had successfully fulfilled the project requirement of contributing 20% of the required beneficiary contribution, making them eligible to receive the project-supported inputs and equipment.
The handover ceremony was held at the district council hall and was attended by key district leaders and project stakeholders. Present at the event were the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (ACAO), the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Oyoo Walter, the District Focal Point Officer Okot Uthant, district technical staff, local leaders, and the beneficiary farmers.
In his remarks, the Chief Administrative Officer represented by Odong Sam ACAO commended the farmers for meeting their 20% contribution and emphasized the importance of utilizing the distributed items responsibly to improve agricultural productivity, household incomes, and food security. He encouraged beneficiaries to maintain the equipment properly and adopt climate-smart agricultural practices promoted under the project.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner applauded the Government of Uganda and its development partners for supporting farmers through the project. He urged beneficiaries to ensure that the items were used strictly for their intended purposes and cautioned against selling, misusing, or neglecting the equipment. He also encouraged transparency and accountability in the implementation of the project.
The District Focal Point Officer represented by Okot Uthan provided an overview of the project implementation process, explaining that only farmers who had completed the required 20% contribution qualified to receive the consignment. the groups included Nen Anyim in lagoro, Christ church Bajere C.O.U Labong Akwang, Alliance development in Orom S/C, Gen cingi in Orom east, Ngec pi kwo Lagoro, Tewoyo family empowerment Initiative Mucwini west, Tute keni in Namokora, Wapeny Anga in Namokora North and Tim ki Komi in Namokora North.
The officer outlined the objectives of the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project, highlighting its focus on increasing agricultural productivity, improving resilience to climate change, and enhancing sustainable livelihoods among farming communities.
Following the official remarks, the consignment was handed over to the eligible farmers. Beneficiaries acknowledged receipt of the items by signing the relevant handover documents, confirming that the equipment had been received in good condition. District technical staff also guided the farmers on the proper use, maintenance, and management of the items to maximize their benefits and ensure long-term sustainability.
The ceremony concluded with appreciation from the beneficiary farmers, who thanked the Government of Uganda and the implementing agencies for supporting agricultural development in Kitgum District. They pledged to use the items effectively to improve farm productivity, increase household incomes, and contribute to sustainable agricultural transformation within their communities.
The handover exercise was successfully completed in a transparent and orderly manner, marking another important milestone in the implementation of the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project in Kitgum District.
